How to Read Wagering Requirements

A wagering multiplier on its own tells you very little, so this page shows how to convert it into required turnover and then correct that figure for the three rules that change it.

Quick answer

What matters on this page

Wagering means total stakes placed, not money lost. Every spin counts toward the requirement whether it wins or loses, which is why the figure looks larger than most players expect on first reading.

Four lines in the terms set the real difficulty: the multiplier, the basis it applies to, the contribution rate of the games you intend to play, and the time you have. Read all four together or the comparison is meaningless.

What the multiplier is applied to

The multiplier is useless until you know its basis. Terms apply it to the bonus alone, to the bonus plus the deposit, or occasionally to the deposit alone, and the same number means very different things in each case.

Find the basis before anything else. A bonus-only basis is the lightest of the three; a bonus-plus-deposit basis asks for substantially more turnover from the identical headline figure.

Free spins are usually treated separately again, with the multiplier applied to the winnings the spins produce rather than to any bonus credit.

Do the arithmetic from your own terms

Take the basis amount from the cashier, multiply it by the stated multiplier, and you have the turnover target before adjustments. Write the result down, because it is the number you will measure progress against.

The table gives the three common basis variants and the figure each one needs from you. Fill in the values your own offer shows rather than any example, since caps and multipliers differ by account and change over time.

Bonus plus deposit(bonus + deposit) x multiplierBoth the deposit and the credited bonus

Contribution rates change the real total

Game contribution is a percentage applied to each stake as it counts toward the requirement. Pokies commonly contribute in full, while table games, live dealer tables and instant titles contribute at a reduced rate or not at all.

A reduced rate multiplies the work. If a category counts at half, every dollar staked there moves you half a dollar closer, so the turnover you personally need doubles for that game.

Excluded games are worse than reduced ones, because stakes placed there may breach the terms rather than simply fail to count. Read the excluded list before opening a title, not after.

Maximum bet while a bonus is active

Almost every bonus sets a stake ceiling for as long as the bonus is live. Exceeding it once is commonly listed as grounds for removing the bonus and any winnings built from it, and the system often does not block the bet.

Check how the ceiling treats feature buys, ante bets and double-stake options, since those can push a single spin above the limit without changing the base stake you selected.

Expiry turns turnover into a rate

Divide the turnover target by the days remaining and you get a daily staking rate. That rate, rather than the multiplier, tells you whether the offer suits how you actually play.

If the rate is higher than your normal session volume, the honest answer is that the bonus does not fit, and declining it keeps your deposit free of restrictions.

Confirm when the clock starts. Some terms run it from the credit of the bonus, others from registration or from the qualifying deposit, and the difference can be most of the window.

What you can withdraw, and playing within limits

Terms distinguish sticky bonuses, which are removed from the balance when you withdraw, from non-sticky bonuses that convert to cash once cleared. Find out which applies before you plan a payout.

Look for a win cap on bonus play as well. Where one exists, anything above it is forfeited when the bonus converts, which can matter more than the wagering itself.

FAQ

Short answers

Does wagering mean money I have to lose?

No. It counts total stakes placed, so winnings you restake also count toward the requirement. This is why the target can be met with a balance still in the account.

Why do two offers with the same multiplier differ so much?

Usually the basis. A multiplier applied to bonus plus deposit asks for far more turnover than the same multiplier applied to the bonus alone, and contribution rates widen the gap further.

Do live dealer games clear a bonus?

Often at a reduced rate, and sometimes not at all. Check the contribution list in the current terms, because a reduced rate increases the turnover you personally need to place.

What happens if I go over the maximum bet by accident?

The usual stated consequence is removal of the bonus and the winnings derived from it. Keep the stake below the ceiling for the whole bonus period rather than relying on the client to stop you.
